KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA GANGTOK

ANNUAL REPORT-2013-14

 20TH DECEMBER, 2013

One cannot live in isolation; so life is relationship & Relationship is Action……relationship, surely, is the mirror in which we discover ourselves. Without relationship we are not; to be is to be related, to be related is existence. Kendriya Vidyalaya Gangtok once again celebrates its glorious existence today, the 20th Day of December, 2013.

Good Morning!

His Esteemed Honour,Maj.Gen.Devraj Anbu, YSM,SM GOC 17 Mtn.Division Honourable Chief Guest of the occasion, Esteemed Guest of  Honour, Shri LAC Singh, PAG, Sikkim & Chairman of VMC; Special Guest, Madam D.Anbu ,Reverend members of VMC, PTA, Dignitaries, distinguished invitees, Parents, Guardians, Members of Press & Media, my worthy Colleagues, loving students, Ladies & Gentleman.

Division; Madam Anbu, Shri LAC Singh, our Honorable Guest of Honour; dignitaries and parents who have multiplied our joy and happiness with their august presence in this auspicious occasion of Annual Day Celebration-2013-14.

Friend! Kendriya Vidyalaya has become one year older by today-since 20th December, 2012 when we celebrated 35th Annual Day here in this auditorium. Besides, I have one year’s experience as Principal of this Vidyalaya. With the passage of Time, things have changed- and changed for better! With all co-operation, support, team-work, enthusiasm and Spirit, the staff of this Institution has scripted a saga of success, a story of achievements in the chronicle of KV Gangtok to be appreciated, noted, remembered and recalled in the days to come.

Ladies & Gentlemen, standing over here with the Annual Report of my Vidyalaya, I am tempted to speak a few words on our Sangathan. Established in the year 1963 by the recommendation of 2nd Pay Commission, esteemed Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has four fold missions viz.

1.To cater to the educational needs of children of transferable Central Govt. including Defence & Para –military personnel by providing a common programme of education.

2.To pursue excellence and set the pace in the field of school education.

3.To initiate and promote experimentation & innovations in education in collaboration with other bodies like the CBSE and NCERT etc and

4. To develop the spirit of national integration an create a sense of a Indianness among children.

Friends, NCERT plans, CBSE implements and we at Kendriya Vidyalaya across the nation execute. Thus Kendriya Vidyalayas are workshops for experiments, innovations, newness and freshness in our education system.

The year 2013 commemorated Golden Jubilee Celebration of foundation of KVS. Thus we have served the nation for last fifty years.

Ladies  & Gentlemen, let me make it very loud and clear that KV Gangtok is firmly wedded to the ideals of Esteemed KVS and committed to educating our next generation that will take the nation to greater heights. We do not confine Education-Teaching-Learning activities to the class-rooms and books only. Apart from Academics; equal emphasis is given on co-curricular and Games as well Sports activities. As such, the Vidyalaya and its premises is the workshop where man-making-endeavor is realized. We target, the growth of all domains of a child-cognitive, affective and psycho-motor. It’s all about personality development, learning life-skill and inculcating age-old values and attitude. From Day-1 of the Session, we have a well-structured & defined list of activities under-CCE & PSA for scholastics, CCA, CMP, Games and Sports etc for co-scholastics. For the Transaction of curricular activities we have class-wise Split-up of syllabus, activity-sheet, specification of practical, and provision for Lesson-Plan etc. Here everyone performs- both teacher as well as the student.

Ladies & Gentlemen ! Annual result- in Home centre or in AISSCE is the yard-stick to assess the performance of the Vidyalaya. Though the Vidyalaya has been passing through different difficulties-infrastructure & others-, we have better results in the Academic Session-2012-13.

In Class-X, 68, students appeared and all 68 students passed with flying colours. Thus the pass % was 100%. It’s the best result in N.E.Region. 04 students had 10 CGPA viz-Neha Chaturvedi, Sachin Negi, Suraj Sah and Sonali Pal. They have been lavishly rewarded by CBSE with Rs.5000/- each  and Merit Certificates.

In AISSCE-2013, overall result of the Vidyalaya was about 80% with 54 PI. Amit Rai of XII(Com) topped the Region with 96% and was placed in 4th position in the All India Merit list. Besides, 04 students of XII(Com) are  in top twenty of the NE Region. I once again congratulate Mr.B.Lal the Commerce teacher, the students and parents for such an excellent show. Thank you all, Needless to mention that the result of other classes i.e for class I to Class IX was 100%. I take advantage of the occasion to make a commitment that the result for this current session-2013-14 in class-X and Class-XII will be far-far better than that of 2012-13 and create history.

Ladies & Gentlemen! ‘Learning by Doing,’ ‘Learning by Living’ and ‘Learning without Tears’ are the main characteristics of new education. Philosophical and Sociological ideas have brought about a change in the concept of education. The crying need of the hour is the ‘education for democracy’ and hence I strongly believe that education must aim at producing those individuals who can intelligently and amicably participate in the various activities of life. Traditional Curriculum has failed to meet the demands of the changing concept of education. The Co-curricular programme is a convenient tool by which an inadequate curriculum may be modified. To enliven the routine of our academic work, this year we conducted a number of activities in the form of Inter -House Completions viz-Extempore Speech (Hindi/Eng), Debate, Elocutions, Song, Dance (Solo/Group), Quiz, Essay Writing, Drawing & Painting Competitions etc.

At Vidyalaya, Level Social Science Exhibition, the students have shown great enthusiasm- with presentation of models, charts, dance, song, quiz, speech, Skit etc. I tell it with a heavy heart that the best selected students of this Vidyalaya could not participate in Cluster level competition due to road blockade during Gorkha Land Agitation. However, the models prepared by the students were selected for regional Level. Consequently, our students got opportunity to participate in Quiz and Skit Competitions at Cluster level and they brought laurels for the Vidyalaya.

Apart from in Vidyalaya level Games & Sports activities, the students of our Vidyalaya out shown others in different competitions in different levels. Here presenting a compendium of our achievements.

Gold Medal in Kho-Kho for girls., Silver Medal in Tennis Ball Throw (Girls) ,Bronze in Long Jump(Boys) ,Silver in 200m Race (Boys), Bronze in Shot Put (Girls),Bronze in Long Jump(Girl), Gold in 100m Race(Girl), Bronze in Ropes Keeping (Girl),Bronze in North-East State Level Wushu Championship, In Cluster Level CMP  Cultural Meet we have equally excelled viz. 1st position in group Dance, 1st position in Group Song, 1st position in Dance on the Theme-Water Conservation. I congratulate all the participants and thank all the teachers for their honest effort and success.

Despite all these success, our thirst for more could not be satisfied in this year because when there were competitions in Cluster-Level & Regional Level, we could not move out of Gangtok due to Gorkhaland Strike and Bandh which possessed risk to the students on the way to Sevoke Road or Bagdogra or Sukna. However, we will continue the rich legacy of wining in Games & Sports in Regional and National levels in years to come.

Ladies & Gentlemen! K.V.Gangtok has a rich Library which is fully automated with Bar coding system. The students avail the Resource. Apart from it, under Annual Library Activities, we have no. of Celebrations and Competitions viz. National Book Week Celebration, Book Exhibitions, Handwriting Competition, Essay Writing Competition, Poem Writing, Debate, Poster etc. All of our Endeavour is to attract the student towards the wonder of Books.

In CWC conducted state-level Drawing Competition our students, particularly Chhitiz of VIIIB out showed participants of other institutions.

Ladies & Gentlemen! Put your hands together for these tiny-tots of our Vidyalaya who have taken the institution to greater height.

Ladies & Gentlemen! I am delighted to let you know that Bharat Scouts & Guide is an integral part of K.V.Gangtok. Through different programmes, the students cultivate life-skills that one needs today to survive. Here is the story of success .

All of them command our Special appreciation. I take the opportunity to thank Mr.N.M.Shilal, HWB (Scouts) for his able leadership and guidance.

May I have the privilege to highlight some of the special provisions made at our end to take the Vidyalaya to greater height- Remedial Classes for Slow Bloomers, Special Classes for PSA, use of ICT facilities in teaching –learning activities, Regular Organizations of VMC, PTA Meetings etc.

Of lat, we have infrastructure problems. Hope 2014 will give us gifts in the form of better infra structure facilities. I am very sure the undaunted mettle and spirit of my staff-members cannot be suppressed and threatened by a number of odds and obstacles against which we are buffeting.

Ladies  & Gentlemen! Before I conclude my speech, I would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to all the benefactors who have extended all support and help for celebration of this grand festival.
